I’M Research Consortium (Indonesia-Malaysia Research Consortium) is the Indonesia-Malaysia
network of research-intensive universities and institution, working together to foster institutional
innovation through research-inspired teaching and learning, student mobility, connecting our
students and staff, and wider advocacy for Internationalization.


  • To strengthen academic and research cooperation between Indonesia and Malaysia.
  • To promote the quality of education, research and community services.
  • To establish exchange programs for our universities’ students, faculty and administrative staff.


Indonesia-Malaysia Research Consortium (I’MRC) forum was held successfully by Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) on 18th May 2016 at UTM Kuala Lumpur Campus The forum was chaired by the Secretary General Ministry of Higher Education, Malaysia, Y. Bhg. Dato’ Seri Ir. Dr. Zaini Ujang. It was attended by more than 70 delegates from more than 30 Malaysia and Indonesia institutions of higher learning. The former Minister of National Education, Indonesia – Prof. Dr. Ir. Mohammad Nuh also joined the forum.
During the formation of I’MRC, five research universities in Malaysia, namely Universiti Malaya (UM), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) ere actively involved. After the I’MRC forum, some research cooperation involving several universities in Indonesia and Malaysia were carried out..

All I’M Research Consortium member institution are research-led, comprehensive universities
providing a strong quality assurance framework to the network’s activities.

I’M Research Consortium is an arrangement between Ministry of Research Technology and Higher
Education, Republic of Indonesia and Ministry of Higher Education, Malaysia where Institut Teknologi
Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) are the coordinators for Indonesia
and Malaysia, respectively.

Following the successful Indonesia-Malaysia Research Consortium (I’MRC) forum was held by UTM
on 18 May 2016 at UTM Kuala Lumpur Campus, online community platform of I’MRC:
https://imresearchconsortium.ning.com/ is now open for registration. There are currently 495 active
members from more than 50 universities.



I’M Research Consortium (Indonesia-Malaysia Research Consortium) is a collaborative research platform for lecturers and researchers from higher education and research institutions in Indonesia and Malaysia. I’MRC is open to students, lecturers and researchers from both countries and it is important since this strategic cooperative enables the members to interact and cooperate more systematically.
