Following the success of its six previous editions, SENTA 2022 returned with the title “Sustainable Development and Innovation in Marine Technology for a Post Pandemic Era”. This seventh international conference on marine technology was held in a hybrid format on Thursday (20/10). Organized by the Faculty of Marine Technology (FTK) at Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS), the event invited three distinguished keynote speakers to discuss the future of the maritime world.

The Chairman of the Special Task Force for Upstream Oil and Gas Business Activities (SKK Migas), Dr. (HC) Ir. Dwi Soetjipto, served as the first keynote speaker. He shared insights regarding the roadmap for achieving Indonesia’s oil and gas production targets by 2030, which aim for 1 million barrels of oil per day (BOPD) and 12 billion cubic feet of gas per day (BSCFD). Dwi emphasized that reaching these targets is a monumental challenge that requires massive investment and advanced maritime infrastructure.

Dwi Soetjipto further explained that a total investment of approximately USD 179 billion is needed by 2030 to fulfill these production goals. This strategy involves optimizing existing fields, accelerating resource-to-production transformation, and significantly increasing exploration activities. Marine technology plays a crucial role in these efforts, particularly in the development and installation of offshore facilities and subsea infrastructure.

The conference also featured Prof. Masashi Kashiwagi from Osaka University, Japan, who discussed the latest innovations in ship design and hydrodynamics. In addition, Prof. Richard Birmingham from Newcastle University, UK, presented on the importance of sustainable maritime education and the development of high-quality human resources to meet the demands of the 4.0 industrial era.

Opening the seminar, the Dean of FTK ITS, Dr. Eng. Trika Pitana ST MSc, highlighted that SENTA continues to be a strategic forum for researchers, academics, and industry experts to exchange breakthrough ideas. He noted that since its transition to an international conference in 2016, SENTA has significantly increased its contribution to global maritime research through Scopus-indexed publications.

SENTA 2022 stands as a testament to ITS’s commitment to advancing maritime technology that is not only highly efficient but also environmentally sustainable. By bridging the gap between theoretical research and industrial needs, the event accelerates Indonesia’s progress toward becoming a resilient global maritime axis in the post-pandemic era.
